Marco, an Italian student in a foreign country (Rotterdam, Netherland), interwievs his friends

Lucia – Spain – lived in Denmark and Costa Rica

Q: What does it mean for you to be a European citizen?

A: It means that there should be no difference between me and other Europeans because we are all neighbors so we are all equal to each other and we should all look after each other and help each other out( (in theory that’s how it should be).

Q: What are the advantages of being part of the European Union?

A: Passporting rights are pretty cool, we have the right to medical aid anywhere in Europe and we use the same currency ( well in almost most European countries)

Q: What are the disadvantages or critical points of being part of the European Union?

A: I think despite all being in the European Union, there’s prejudice towards each and every country. Like ok, I get it, Spanish youth unemployment right now is fucking insane but that doesn’t define who we are as spaniards nor does it define the level of hard work and dedication I put into my studies. And i don’t mean to be shady, but I think some people from other European countries should see beyond that and understand that not all Spanish people are lazy as fuck.
Lorenzo – from Italy, lived in the US

Q: What does it mean for you to be a European citizen?

A: It means being part of a community. It (should) mean being one unit! Eventually subdivided in countries

Q: What are the advantages of being part of the European Union?

A: Advantages are free trades, no borders, open communication, help and cohesion

Q: What are the disadvantages or critical points of being part of the European Union?

A: Disadvantages, I don’t see many, besides the common idea of a too socialist community

Hedda – from Norway

Q: What does it mean for you to be a European citizen?

A: Being a European citizen doesn’t necessarily mean that you are a part of the European Union. I feel like a European citizen. I think that Europe has lot of differences among its countries but they are somehow all linked to a mutual culture and tradition and being European citizen means being part of this shared culture.

Q: What are the advantages of being part of the European Union?

A: The advantages are: you don’t need a visa in order to travel across European’s countries; being able to study abroad with out paling high fees and tuitions; it makes euro and Europe important and it brings “Europe” to the level of US china etc.

Q: What are the disadvantages or critical points of being part of the European Union?

A: Disadvantages: not a lot of freedom in controlling a country’s own economy
